Studies on high resolution atomic absorption spectrometric methods for the direct analysis of environmental samples and advanced nano-materials
-
Description of the research topic:
This research focuses on studying the possibilities for the analysis of the composition of small (microgram) amounts of environmental matrices (e.g., soils, minerals) and advanced nanomaterials (e.g., doped optical crystals) by advantageous means of high-resolution continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry (HR-CS-AAS). The main purpose of the work is to develop modern solid sampling based analytical methods, applicable for the determination of trace elements present in the concerned matrices by means of HR-CS-AAS, implying studies on spectral and non-spectral interferences, and developing methodologies for their reduction or elimination. A further research task would be a systematic investigation on the vaporization and atomization processes of the matrix constituents in spectrochemical sources (e.g., graphite furnaces), and elaboration of accurate methodological and calibration procedures for the quantitation of trace components in a selected sample type as above.Thesis supervisor: László Bencs
