Description of the research topic
Besides the changes in aerosol size distribution, anatomical and physiological properties of the lungs are also affected by smoking. All these effects can modulate absorbed doses in the lungs upon radon exposure. The aim of the research is the quantify the effect of smoking on radon dosimetry. For this purpose, an extensive literature review has to be performed collecting numerical data on morphological and physiological changes of the lungs upon smoking. Using these data, mathematical models have to be developed and implemented in already existing numerical models.
