Description of the research topic:
The aim of the project is the design and synthesis of novel supramolecular materials that exhibit unique structures, properties and stimuli-responsive behaviour. Non-covalent interactions (metal-ligand and hydrogen bonding, π···π, aurophilic) will be used to control the stimuli-responsive behaviour and increase the utility of these new materials. Mechanochemical methods will also be developed for the synthesis of stimuli-responsive supramolecular systems. Stimuli-responsive materials that are able to change their properties in response to physical, chemical or biological stimuli are of interest in sensing, imaging, molecular memory and biomedical applications.
