This document exposes the context of the proposed Official Doctoral Degree in Information and Communication Technologies, proposed by the Departments of Signal Theory and Communications, and Automation of the University of Alcalá, according to the regulatory framework of RD 99 / 2011
The doctoral program began as a Doctorate Program in Computer Architecture in the year 1998-1999, regulated by RD 778/1998. This program obtained the Quality Mention in the year 2006, with reference: MCD-2006 00034. In turn, this Doctoral Program became the Official Postgraduate Program in Information and Communication Technologies under the defined regulatory framework by the RD 56/2005, Obtaining the mention of Quality in the year 2006, with reference MCD2006-00282. The Program was adapted to RD 1393/2007 by means of the abbreviated verification procedure I for programs with a quality mention, which involved transforming the POP without modifications into a University Master’s Degree regulated by the aforementioned RD 1393/2007. Recently, the Doctorate Program in Information and Communication Technologies obtained the Mention of Excellence from the Ministry of Education, a mention currently valid for the courses 2011-2012 to 2013-14, reference MEE2011-0042.
With this proposal of Official Doctorate Degree according to RD 99/2011, the “Training of high-level researchers capable of providing solutions in the field of information technology and communications” is intended. The general objectives pursued are the following:
Establish an ideal framework for innovation and production of relevant scientific advances, leading to the realization of doctoral theses of high scientific quality.
Offer a rigorous third cycle training for new researchers and organize research teams that can successfully meet the challenge of expanding knowledge in information technology and communications.
Collaborate in the training of university teaching staff, with special emphasis on the research training of teachers.
Improve the professional, scientific and technical development of the graduates, with a special interest in the improvement of Research, Development and Innovation activities related to the field of Information and Communication Technologies in general, and of the areas of interest of the departments involved, in particular.
For this, it is intended to provide the student with sufficient knowledge, skills and research skills in the following general subjects:
Information processing.
Computer architecture.
Mathematical methods applicable to the design and evaluation of communication systems.
Communication networks, architectures and protocols.
Embedded systems and real time.
